Bee Cosies

We finally had warm, sunny weather this weekend and I could do a final check of the bees and prepare them for Winter.

John made some beautiful pitched roofs for the bee hives - the brief was something that could provide insulation, rain run-off and eaves to give some protection to the front entrance. He did a great job - and hopefully they're going to help keep the bees warm and cosy this Winter, so we've called them "Bee Cosies".

Insulation in bee hive roof

Filled with hay for insulation, I also added a brick inside for a bit of extra weight.

Ready to face Winter - though I will reduce the entrances a bit once the weather cools down again.
