Bee Forage

We've done a lot of planning/planting for the bees over the last year, but it is going to take a few years before the plants have grown enough to provide plenty of year-round forage. At the moment things are getting lean in the flower gardens with only a few zinnias and salvias in flower. Fortunately some of the natives are coming into flower and our small grevilleas are helping out. Today as I walked past the pond I could hear a lot of action on the gum tree there - once I took a look up I could see it beginning to flower. The bees were right onto it. Clever girls!

One of the hives has its new roof thanks to John's handiwork - I'm still trying to decide whether or not I want to paint it river gum green (the same colour as the house roof) or leave as is - I like the metal finish and am worried the green will be too much.
